HOME > men's healthIt’s no big secret that we are all aging. Since we can’t stop the process, and the fountain of youth may or may not exist, we may as well work with our bodies and strive to live healthy. Here are five groups areas men can focus on to live a long healthy life. Regular exercise is even more important for seniors than other age groups since the risk of disease and lost mobility is greater, and the positive effects are realized more quickly. But, as we all know, the hardest part is getting started. - Force yourself to walk by parking further away from the store or office. Food provides the energy and nutrients you need to be healthy. Nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. Studies show that a good diet in your later years reduces your risk of osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease and certain cancers. As you age, you might need less energy, but you still need just as many of the nutrients in food. To get them - Choose a variety of healthy foods The greatest enemy to the healthy senior mind is depression. New activities, hobbies, and exercise are wonderful anti-depressants. If you truly are depressed, don't bear it alone -- SEEK HELP! - Take a class, play games, be with people Just as physical and mental fitness are important to healthy aging, so is financial well-being. Many people who retire may have to live on a fixed income for many years, so it's very important that people take a hard look at their finances and goals. The best succeed on a fixed/limited income is to have a plan for every dollar at your discretion. |
