We all get sick from time to time or we care for those that are. Annually there are 3 billion prescriptions written annually in America, and filling those prescriptions is big business. Unfortunately for many pharmacies its all about business. At the Community Wellness Centers pharmacies our patients and their health are still top priority.

There are many differences between big box chain stores and a Community Wellness Centers pharmacy, but when it comes to dispensing medication accurately, quickly, and economically there is no comparison. Let's look at some common myths and truths behind big box chains vs. Community Wellness Centers.

The Myth

I have to the prescription filled where my doctor or insurance says.

The Truth

A prescription written by a medical professional is solely the property of the patient, and where that prescription is filled is also the choice of the patient. A doctor, pharmacist, insurance provider, or a third party care taker cannot dictate where a prescription is filled.

The Myth

It is cheaper to get my prescription filled at a big box chain store.

The Truth

Although millions of marketing dollars are spent trying to convince patients that big box chain stores are cheaper, they aren't. In most cases the patient has an insurance co-pay that is the same whether the prescription is filled at a Community Wellness Centers pharmacy or at a "MegaMart".

If the patient does not have insurance and pays with cash, a big box chain doesn't have the flexibility to assist patients in need, nor do they offer patient charge accounts like the Community Wellness Centers pharmacies do.

The Myth

I can get my prescription filled faster at a box chain pharmacy.

The Truth

Unbeknownst to many patients, box chain pharmacies are instructed, by corporate officials, to make a patient wait for a minimum of 30 minutes before their prescription is ready to pick up. They know that while a patient waits, they spend an extra $20-$30 on items that may not have been purchased otherwise.
